The Tale of Momotaro
Momotaro, often translated as 'Peach Boy', is one of Japan's most beloved folktales. The story begins when an elderly, childless couple discovers a boy inside a giant peach floating down a river. They name him Momotaro and raise him as their own.
As Momotaro grows, he embarks on a heroic journey to defeat a band of oni (demons) who have been terrorizing the countryside. Along his journey, he befriends a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant, who join his quest after sharing his millet dumplings. Together, they defeat the demons and return home with their treasure.
